Police identify shooting victim who struck North Little Rock gas main with van while fleeing

North Little Rock police have identified a shooting victim who struck a gas main and caused a leak while fleeing in a van Saturday.

Officers responded to a shooting call in the 1900 block of Crutcher Street about 2:15 p.m., the report released Tuesday states.

While police looked for the victim, a woman identified herself as the girlfriend of 31-year-old Calvin Chiest Williams Jr., adding that he had already fled the scene, according to the report.

She told police that her brother had pulled a gun and fired into Williams' van after an argument with her family earlier in the day.

While fleeing, the van struck a building and a gas main near 18th Street and Pike Avenue, causing a gas leak that has since been repaired, Police Department spokesman Sgt. Brian Dedrick previously told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

Williams was hit in the ankle and was treated at UAMS Medical Center, according to police.

The 29-year-old named as a suspect on the report did not appear in the Pulaski County jail online inmate roster as of Tuesday afternoon.
