A central Arkansas university's lecture series will feature former First Lady Laura Bush in April.

According to a news release from Harding University, Bush will speak in the Benson Auditorium on April 16 at 7:30 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public, the release states.

"Having a former first lady share insights from the time she spent in the White House will be a memorable evening," Kim Kirkman, executive director of the university's American Studies Institute, said. "All first ladies have important roles in our American story. I look forward to hearing her tell her story."

Bush, 71, was first lady from 2001 to 2009 while George W. Bush was president. During that term and in her time as first lady of Texas, she championed causes including education, literacy and global health.
