Arkansas teen killed after train strikes pickup

A teenager died after a train struck the pickup he was traveling in at railroad tracks in southeast Arkansas, police said.

The crash happened around 3:10 p.m. Tuesday at U.S. 82B and U.S. 165 in Montrose, according to an Arkansas State Police report.

Authorities say a 1996 Dodge Dakota traveled east across railroad tracks and was struck by a northbound train.

A passenger in the pickup, 18-year-old Chase Andrew Barbee of Montrose, suffered fatal injuries as a result, the report states. One other person was said to be hurt, though the report didn't name the person or indicate the extent of the injuries.

Travel conditions at the time of the crash were described as clear and dry.

Barbee’s death was one of at least 22 recorded on an Arkansas road so far this year, according to preliminary figures.

Montrose, an Ashley County town of around 330 residents, is about 130 miles southeast of Little Rock.
