More than 1 pound of marijuana was found in a vehicle driven by Korliss Marshall, 23, of Fayetteville, authorities said.

A former University of Arkansas running back was arrested Friday in northeast Arkansas, authorities said.

Korliss Marshall was arrested at 7 p.m. on charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia, speeding and driving without a license.

The arrest came after the 23-year-old Fayetteville resident was pulled over in a rental car for speeding on Interstate 40 in St. Francis County, according to an arrest report from the sheriff's office. He told deputies he was traveling from Memphis to Osceola because his grandmother was on life support.

Deputies said they could smell a strong odor of marijuana and upon searching the vehicle, found 1 pound of marijuana, bags commonly used to package marijuana for sale, scales and nearly $700.

Marshall played for the Razorbacks during the 2013 and 2014 seasons. He was suspended for five of the Razorbacks' final six games of the 2014 regular season for what was described as a violation of university policies. He rushed for 119 yards and one touchdown that season and was also the team leader with 271 kickoff return yards, including a 97-yard touchdown against Northern Illinois.

He was being held at the St. Francis County jail Monday afternoon in lieu of $50,000 bond, records show.
