Lake Charles State Park Activities
POWHATAN — Lake Charles State Park will offer the following activities: a 1.5-mile Morning Birding Hike from 9-10 a.m. — meet at the White Oak trailhead near the campsites; Nature Center Exploration from 1-3 p.m. — animals may include turtles, frogs, snakes and more; Nature’s Clean-Up Crew from 1-1:45 p.m. to learn how fungi, vultures and worms have an important role in the environment; Summer Safety from 2-2:45 p.m. to learn about simple steps to take to get the most fun out of your summer; and a .75-mile Nature Hike from 3:30-4:30 p.m. starting at the Cedar Trailhead in the day-use area. Izard County Historical Society Meeting
BROCKWELL — The Izard County Historical Society will meet at 2 p.m. at the Izard County Senior Center, about 1 mile south of Brockwell on Arkansas 9. Bad Boy Splash and Dash
BATESVILLE — The seventh annual Bad Boy Splash and Dash will take place at the new Batesville Community and Aquatics Center. Kids ages 5-18 can swim, run and splash. All participants will receive a finisher’s medal, a T-shirt and entry to the water park. Younger children and families can register for the water-park-only option. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Ozark Foothills Literacy Project. Art Exhibit
ASH FLAT — Award-winning artist Bobbie Hanson is displaying several of her original paintings at the Ash Flat Library through July. Hanson moved to Arkansas in 2002 and began painting in watercolor. She has branched out into other media but said watercolor is still her favorite. She is a member of the Spring River Art Guild in Hardy, the Ozark Regional Arts Council and the Fulton County Arts Council.

Painting Demonstration
MOUNTAIN VIEW — Artist Yun Kim will be in the Arkansas Craft Gallery from 1-3 p.m. July 21 to demonstrate her expressive style of painting using exuberant color on canvas. POWHATAN — Powhatan Historic State Park will present Pearl Stringing from 9 a.m. to noon July 21 at the Visitor Center. The admission price varies. Participants will learn the history of the Arkansas pearling industry and make keepsake jewelry — earrings, a bracelet, a necklace or one of each. Prices are $5 for earrings, $10 for a bracelet and $20 for a necklace. Students may bring their own snacks and drinks. Reservations are required. Palestine Baptist Church Homecoming

Beginner Painting Class
ASH FLAT — Ozarka College-Ash Flat’s Continuing Education program will offer a beginner-level painting class, taught by Angela Phipps, from 5:30-8 p.m July 24. Phipps is the campus director at Ozarka College-Ash Flat and has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting from Savannah College of Art and Design. Old Soldiers Reunion Parade
HEBER SPRINGS — American Legion Post 64 will host the annual Old Soldiers Reunion Parade at 6 p.m. Aug. 2. The parade will start at Harps Grocery and end at Spring Park. Lineup will be at 5:30.
