67-year-old man killed in Arkansas lightning strike

A 67-year-old man died after being struck by lightning Friday afternoon in Pope County, the coroner said.

The strike happened about 1:30 p.m. as Al Frazier went outside his Russellville residence in the 1500 block of Lands End Point South during a period of light rain, Pope County Coroner Danny White said.

White said lightning hit a nearby tree and arced, striking Frazier.

Frazier was taken to Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville, where he was pronounced dead about 2 p.m. Friday, authorities said.

Two people have died in lightning strikes in Arkansas this year, according to the National Weather Service's North Little Rock office.
