Rotary executive in Northwest Arkansas accused of looting $245,000 from club accounts

A woman accused of stealing $245,000 from a Rotary Club was arrested Thursday, police said.

A representative from the club reported to Springdale police that she suspected Courtney Palfreeman, 40, stole money from the club accounts and moved money from the nonprofit's accounts for personal gain, according to a preliminary arrest report.

Authorities wrote that an audit conducted from July 2017 to June 2018 found about $245,000 was missing from club accounts. The audit showed Palfreeman used the club credit card for personal use, racking up $88,000 in charges, and forged names on club checks, bank records and financial records, according to the report.

Palfreeman surrendered to police Thursday and was released later that day from the Washington County jail on $2,500 bond. She faces charges of theft, fraudulent use of a credit card and forgery.

Palfreeman is listed as the principal officer for the Rotary Club of Springdale on the website Guidestar.org, which is a nonprofit that collects information about philanthropy and charitable organizations.
