A Russellville man was flown to a Missouri hospital after a small plane crashed Wednesday night at an airstrip in north Arkansas, the second incident there in less than a month, authorities said.
The Baxter County sheriff's office said the pilot, Jeremy Saul, 38, was taken by air ambulance to a hospital in Springfield, Mo. A report from the Federal Aviation Administration characterized Saul's injuries as serious.
The crash happened around 8:30 p.m. at Gaston's Landing Strip, Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery said in a statement. Saul's single-engine Cessna 150H was located in a tree line near the airstrip, Montgomery wrote. Investigators believe Saul, the only person on board, was trying to take off when the crash happened.
No update on Saul's condition was immediately available on Thursday morning.
The FAA is investigating the crash, which comes about a month after a small plane crash-landed at the airstrip on June 18. A co-pilot was said to suffer a minor injury in that incident.
The plane crash on Wednesday was the second of the day in Arkansas. Chad McLain, 42, was killed in the crash of a crop-duster in eastern Arkansas early that morning.
