Attacked in lot of Little Rock apartment complex, admitted shooter states

Police released more information Wednesday regarding a shooting outside a Little Rock apartment that left a man critically hurt.

Officers were called shortly before 6:35 p.m. Tuesday to West Wood apartments, 9 Nandina Circle, according to a report from the Police Department.

Edricus Drains, 37, of Little Rock told police that as he pulled up to his apartment, he saw three people lingering nearby and placed a firearm into his pocket.

Drains said one of the people assaulted him and reached into his pockets as he got out his truck. The person grabbed Drains' firearm, at which point a fight began over the weapon, police said.

According to the report, Drains fired up to three rounds at his assailant initially before firing four more rounds when the man refused to let go of the weapon.

Drains then ran to the complex's front office, handed his gun to a security officer and told the official to call police, he told authorities.

Tony Robinson, 30, of Little Rock was found lying on the ground surrounded by a "large amount of blood," the report said. Police noted that he suffered bullet wounds in his abdomen.

An officer said he applied a chest seal to one wound that was "bleeding heavily" on the right side of his abdomen. While doing so, another wound was found in Robinson's upper left thigh, he said.

Lt. Michael Ford, a spokesman for the Police Department, said Robinson went into surgery around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday in critical but stable condition. His condition was not known Wednesday.

A neighbor told police that she heard a disturbance outside, at which point she went outside to find Robinson and Drains fighting, according to authorities.

The woman said she noticed the pair "grabbing each other a lot" before Drains pulled out a "grayish" weapon and shot Robinson as many as four times.

Two other men suspected of participating in the incident were interviewed, police said. According to a department spokesman, no one was arrested. The file will be sent to the prosecuting attorney's office to review.
