Wildwood recital
Violinist Michael Barta, co-founder of the Southern Illinois Chamber Music Society, assistant concertmaster of the Illinois Symphony and Chamber Orchestra and concertmaster of Sinfonia da Camera in Urbana, Ill., joins pianist Carl Anthony for a recital, 7:30 p.m. today, Lucy Lockett Cabe Festival Theatre, Wildwood Park for the Arts, 20919 Denny Road, Little Rock.
The program: Violin Sonata No. 18 in G major, K.301, by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart; Romantic Piece No. 1 by Antonin Dvorak; Sicilienne by Maria Theresia von Paradis; Hungarian Dances No. 5 and 6 by Johannes Brahms; Nocturne, op.9 No. 2, by Frederic Chopin, arranged by Pablo de Sarasate; and the Mazurka in G major, op.19 No. 1, "Obertas" by Henry Wieniawski.

The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (music and lyrics by Carol Hall, book by Larry L. King and Peter Masterson) will be onstage at 7:30 p.m. today-Saturday July 12-14 and July 19-21 and 26-28) and 2:30 p.m. Sunday July 15 and (July 22 and 29 at the Studio Theatre, 320 W. Christian-country singer Jimmy Lewis, Reece Young of the White Mustang Band, Miller-Fite (sisters Jennifer Miller and Julie Fite), Bravo Dance Centre and El Dorado comedian/DJ Carter Bryant will be on the entertainment lineup for the Boomtown Opry, 7 p.m. Saturday at the El Dorado Municipal Auditorium, 100 W. Eighth St., El Dorado.
BJ Kyle leads the house band; country duo Southern Koast (Keith Owens and Susan Tolin) provide background vocals. Actor/singer Steve Harrell is the MC. Aspiring singers may audition for future shows before rehearsals around 3 p.m.

Jim Crow colloquium
Brian Mitchell, a history professor at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, will explore how the combination of politics, economics and a system of Jim Crow laws gave rise to the 1919 Elaine Massacre for the third talk in the Delta Cultural Center's "Elaine Colloquium Series," 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Temple Beth-El Heritage Hall, 406 Perry St., Helena-West Helena.
