Interim North Little Rock schools leader to present administrative reorganization plan

Karli Saracini, executive director of human resources in the North Little Rock School District, will become assistant superintendent in the district as part of an administrative reorganization planned by interim Superintendent Bobby Acklin.

Acklin will present the staffing plan — which includes a new human resources director and a new executive director of elementary curriculum, assessments and accountability — to the School Board at a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. today.

The meeting will be at the district’s administrative headquarters, 2700 Poplar St.

The reorganization comes in Acklin’s first month on the job and just after former Deputy Superintendent Beth Shumate’s contract with the district was allowed to expire on June 30 and was not renewed by the School Board.

Darrick Williams, currently assistant principal at Meadow Park Elementary School, will replace Saracini as head of the human resources department, according to the reorganization plan.

Lori Smith, principal at Crestwood Elementary principal, is to move to the job of executive director of elementary, curriculum, assessments and accountability. Rosie Coleman previously served as the director of elementary education but retired at the end of the 2017-18 school year.

In other changes, two principals are switching schools. Shanda Coleman is going from the principal’s job at Indian Hills Elementary to Boone Park Elementary. Steve Orobona will leave the principal’s job at Boone Park to take the Indian Hills job.

Acklin was named interim superintendent to succeeding Kelly Rodgers in the chief executive position.

Rodgers and School Board members in early June signed a “Separation Agreement” in which the board committed to provide Rodgers with $213,000 in return for his June 30 resignation and his pledge not to sue the district.
