• The Arkansas homecoming of singing star Glen Campbell was dampened by a thunder-shower Saturday afternoon at Adams Field, but a large group of hometown fans braved the rain to welcome the delight of Delight. Campbell, who came to Little Rock for a concert at the Coliseum, was welcomed by Lieutenant Governor Maurice Britt and about 300 other persons, most of them young fans from the Delight area in Pike County. Campbell is from Billstown, near Delight, but Delight claims him. The rain began about 10 minutes before Campbell arrived on an American Airlines jet.

CONWAY -- The Toad Suck Ferry Lock and Dam has helped canoes, bass boats and bulky barges head upstream on the Arkansas River, but the 12-footer that went through the gates during the weekend had no paddle or motor. Ralph Gator made it through on his own power. Ralph, an alligator, had taken up residence in a quiet pool downstream from the dam near an Army Corps of Engineers park, where visitors flocked to see the big reptile. Park rangers warned people to mind their fingers and toes, and are relieved he's left the park area.

• A 56-year-old Miller County man died Saturday afternoon when a tractor he was using caught fire in a pasture on U.S. 82 about five miles west of Garland City. The man's name was not immediately released pending notification of next of kin, said Miller County Coroner Eddie Hawkins. Hawkins pronounced the man dead at 5:42 p.m. at Wadley Regional Medical Center in Texarkana. The cause of death was not immediately known, and an autopsy was ordered, Hawkins said. The man was plowing a field about 4:30 p.m. Saturday at 20292 U.S. 82 in Miller County when part of a barbed-wire fence became wrapped around one of the wheels, said Miller County Sgt. Glenn Cross.
