Lake Charles State Park Activities

POWHATAN — Lake Charles State Park, 3705 Arkansas 25, will offer the following activities today. Meet at the White Oak trailhead near the campsites for a 1.5-mile-long Morning Birding Hike from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Nature Center Exploration will take place from 1-3 p.m., and Birds of Lake Charles will be from 1-1:45 p.m. at the nature center. The Reptile Rendezvous will take place from 2-2:45 p.m. at the nature center to learn about turtles, lizards and snakes. A peaceful, .75-mile Nature Hike will take place from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Meet at the Cedar Trailhead in the day-use area. For all hikes, wear appropriate shoes, and bring sun protection and water. Independence County Library Grand Opening

BATESVILLE — The Independence County Library will have a grand opening Monday at the library’s new location in the Barnett Building, 267 E. Main St. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m., and the keynote speaker will be Gov. Asa Hutchinson. A ribbon cutting will take place at 11 a.m. Tours of the library will be offered throughout the day. There will also be a teen open house at 3 p.m. All area teenagers are welcome to stop by and visit the new Teen Lounge and hear about upcoming programs and events for teens at the library. First-Responder Summer Course

Pearl Stringing

POWHATAN — Powhatan Historic State Park will present Pearl Stringing from 9 a.m. to noon at the Visitor Center. The admission price varies. Participants will learn the history of the Arkansas pearling industry and make keepsake jewelry — earrings, a bracelet, a necklace or one of each. Prices are $5 for earrings, $10 for a bracelet and $20 for a necklace. Students may bring their own snacks and drinks. Reservations are required. Feed the Veterans

CABOT — Feed the Veterans, a veterans food pantry at 2535 S. Rockwood Drive, is open the third Saturday of each month. The pantry, which gives veterans a grocery cart so they can shop for the things they want and the amount they need, serves military veterans, their spouses and children under the age of 18. Retirees, guardsmen and reservists are welcome. The only requirement is proof of military service — a DD-214 or a VA Health Care card or military ID. Art Exhibit

ASH FLAT — Award-winning artist Bobbie Hanson is displaying several of her original paintings at the Ash Flat Library through July. Hanson moved to Arkansas in 2002 and began painting in watercolor. She has branched out into other media but said watercolor is still her favorite. She is a member of the Spring River Art Guild in Hardy, the Ozark Regional Arts Council and the Fulton County Arts Council.
