Running and music have made an enormous impact in the life of Logan Davis.

Davis ran the second leg of Maumelle’s 3,200-meter relay team, a foursome which won at the Meet of Champs. Davis was also a member of the Hornets’ cross country team which won three state titles in the last four years.

Musically, Davis is an accomplished guitarist who is also proficient on the piano and drums. This fall, Davis will be a member of the marching band at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.

At Arkansas, Davis will major in chemical engineering.

“I’ve had a lot of interesting pursuits,” Davis said.

Davis, however, has not always had a charmed life. He has battled multiple injuries during his entire athletic career.

In his first day of football practice in pads while in junior high, Davis suffered a knee injury.

“I’ve always been injury-prone,” Davis said. “I was going to be the best wide receiver. It was our very first day of practicing in pads, our first drill and I was the first in line. I got hit and I tried to plant my foot.”

While his football career was cut short, Davis returned to run sprints with the team. It was there that one of his friends recruited him to run on the cross country team.

“Running has never been at the front of my abilities,” Davis said. “It’s not what I’m known for. I was never extremely talented but the team was great … I don’t know of anything that has improved my life as much as running has.”

Davis was 4 when he had his first musical experience. He started out on the drums.

“My brother had a drum set and I enjoyed banging on them,” Davis said.

The next year, Davis was taught a few simple pieces on the piano and not long after that he discovered the guitar. Davis said he has played with several bands and enjoys playing all kinds of music for a wide variety of audiences.

“For me, the piano is the most beautiful instrument,” Davis said. “It’s hard for me to say what my favorite is but the guitar is the most fun for me to play.”
