69-year-old man found dead in Arkansas house blaze, fire official says

A 69-year-old man died in a Northwest Arkansas house fire late Saturday, according to the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

The newspaper reports that firefighters responded around 10 p.m. in Fayetteville to 595 S. Happy Hollow Road, where flames could be seen coming out the front door.

Resident Billy Jones was found lying on the living room floor next to a chair and oxygen machine, Battalion Chief Mauro Campos said.

Jones — who lived alone but had family members regularly check on him — had known breathing problems and was a smoker, Campos said. Emergency personnel in the past had responded to numerous calls to the home.

Investigators have not officially determined a cause of the fire, Campos said. An autopsy will provide Jones’ cause of death.
