A Madison man told authorities he threw rocks through an elementary school window because he wanted to go to jail, where he isn’t tempted to abuse drugs and alcohol, according to an arrest report.
Deputies with the St. Francis County sheriff’s office responded at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday to Madison Elementary School. When they arrived, authorities said, they found 46-year-old Shawn Henderson with rocks in his hand.
The Madison resident said he threw the rocks and called 911 on himself because he was “better off in the jail,” according to the report.
Henderson went on to explain that he abuses drugs and alcohol, but when he is in jail, he is sober and doesn’t want them, police wrote.
Capt. Eddie Adamson said Henderson was arrested in 2017 after throwing rocks at the same elementary school and giving the same reason.
Records show Henderson was charged with criminal mischief and booked at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday. Adamson said deputies will refer him to Mid-South Health Systems in Forrest City for treatment when he is released from jail.
