71-year-old Arkansan dies in collision with Kenworth truck

A 71-year-old Arkansas man died Monday when the vehicle he was driving turned into the path of a truck, authorities said.

The accident happened just before 9 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 65 and Arkansas 81 in Jefferson County, according to a preliminary Arkansas State Police crash report.

Troopers said Hugh Costello of Pine Bluff was driving south on U.S. 65 in a 2015 Ford. As he turned left onto the state highway, he collided with a 1993 Kenworth traveling north on U.S. 65.

Costello suffered fatal injuries after the front of the truck hit the right side of his vehicle.

The truck driver, 62-year-old Curtis Criss of Pine Bluff, was hurt in the crash, the report states.

Conditions were described as clear and dry at the time of the wreck.

At least 254 people have died in accidents on Arkansas roads so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
