FAYETTEVILLE -- A man died in a house fire late Saturday.

Firefighters responded about 10 p.m. to 595 S. Happy Hollow Road, home of 69-year-old Billy Jones. Flames could be seen coming out the front door, Battalion Chief Mauro Campos said.

Jones was found lying on the living room floor next to a chair, Campos said. Firefighters got him out of the house but Jones appeared to have died some time before, according to Campos.

An oxygen machine was next to the chair. Jones had known breathing problems and was a smoker, Campos said. Emergency personnel in the past had responded to numerous calls to the home.

Jones lived alone but family members regularly checked on him, Campos said. No one else was at the home at the time of the fire, he said.

Investigators have not officially determined a cause of the fire, Campos said. An autopsy will provide Jones' cause of death.
