13 stocks advance as index adds 4.19

The Arkansas Index, a price-weighted index that tracks the largest public companies based in the state, climbed 4.19 to 441.14 Tuesday.

Only three of the 16 issues declined.

"Upbeat comments from Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell's Senate testimony pushed stocks higher, as investors continue to digest corporate earnings," said Chris Harkins, managing director with Raymond James & Associates in Little Rock.

Total volume for the index was 16.6 million shares.

The index was developed by Bloomberg News and the Democrat-Gazette with a base value of 100 as of Dec. 30, 1997.
