Authorities said they have arrested a hotel employee who is accused of raping a guest in her room in northeast Arkansas.

Vikram Mannasamudram of Jonesboro was arrested Friday after a 38-year-old woman said he raped her earlier this month at the Days Inn on 400 Commerce Drive in Trumann, according to a report from the city's Police Department.

The victim told investigators the rape happened at about 3:45 a.m. July 8 after she had requested more towels to take a shower.

Mannasamudram, who was working as the front desk clerk, delivered them and entered her room without consent, according to the report. The report states he pushed the woman onto the bed and performed a sexual act on her.

The woman told him no and asked him to stop, police wrote.

According to the report, Mannasamudram told investigators he thought the woman wanted him to come to her room for a sexual reason because she called for towels to be brought to the room instead of requesting them in person at the front desk.

Mannasamudram could not explain why he thought she was trying to seduce him, police added.

Records show the 23-year-old was booked at 6 p.m. Friday into the Poinsett County jail, where he is being held on $100,000 cash-only bond.

He is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 27.
