1 minor killed, 1 hurt after SUV crashes off Arkansas road, hits tree, police say

A minor was killed and another was injured when the SUV they were in ran off the road in White County and struck a tree early Thursday, according to an Arkansas State Police report.

A 2016 Ford Explorer was traveling west on Blackjack Mountain Road in Floyd when the vehicle veered off the road and hit a tree around 12:30 a.m., authorities said.

The male driver, whose name and exact age weren't listed, suffered fatal injuries.

A female passenger, who was also said to be a minor, was injured and taken to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock, police said.

Weather conditions were listed as clear and dry at the time of the wreck.

There have been at least 258 deaths in crashes on state roads in 2018, according to police.
