Edwards wins Arkansas Women's championship

Maria Edwards of Texarkana, Texas, shot a 6-over-par 77 Wednesday to hold off Taylor Loeb of Maumelle by four strokes to win the Arkansas Women's championship at Pine Bluff Country Club.

Leading Loeb by one stroke going into Wednesday's second and final round, Edwards shot a 3-over 38 in the front nine and a 3-over 39 on the back side which included bogeys on four of her final five holes. She finished with an 8-over 150.

Loeb was unable to make up any ground on the first nine, shooting a 38, but lost her chance on the back with a 4-over 40 to finish 12-over 154.

Julie Oxendine of Dover and Hannah Haltom of Dover both shot a 78 on Wednesday and tied for third at 13-over 155.

Addison Mitchell of Fort Smith was fifth at 14 over, while Allie Weiner of Maumelle was a stroke behind at 15 over to finish sixth.

Pair miss U.S. Girls Junior Amateur cut

Elizabeth Moon of Forrest City and Sydney Staton of Fort Smith missed the cut Wednesday at the U.S. Girls Junior Amateur, a day after their second round was delayed 4 1/2 hours by fog at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach, Calif.

Fog delayed Wednesday's restart 2 hours, 45 minutes.

Moon, a semifinalist in the 2017 event, was in a tie for 27th after shooting a 2-over 73 in Monday's first round. An 8-over 79 left her at 10 over and a single stroke from the 9-over cut line. A total of 14 players at 9 over competed for the final 10 spots to get into the field of 64 which begins match play today.

Staton shot an 11-over 82 on Monday, then rallied back for an 8-over 79 on Wednesday to finish 19 over for her two rounds.
