It happened shortly before 12:40 a.m. as Charles P. Hime drove a Chevrolet Impala east on Arkansas 16 near Combs, according to a preliminary Arkansas State Police report.

The Impala "crossed the roadway," hit a tree and overturned, police wrote. Himes, of Combs, suffered fatal injuries.

Conditions were said to be clear and dry at the time.

At least 259 people have died in traffic crashes in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
