Palestine Baptist Church Homecoming

PEARSON — Palestine Baptist Church, 389 Edgemont Road (Arkansas 16) in the Pearson community, will celebrate 157 years of existence today with a homecoming. Brother Matthew Corkran will preach at 11 a.m., followed by a potluck lunch in the Fellowship Hall. Linda Morgan, a Southern gospel vocalist, will perform after lunch. Splash-Pad Opening

CONWAY — Conway’s first splash pad will open at 9:30 a.m. in Laurel Park. The park is south of Conway High School on Prince Street, but the splash pad is on the Robinson Avenue side of the playground. The 5,500-square-foot splash pad features a toddler bay, a family bay and an activity bay. The splash pad is free to the public and will be open from 9 a.m. to dark daily.

Adult Fall Softball League Divisional Meeting

RUSSELLVILLE — The Russellville Recreation and Parks Department will have a divisional meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the Hughes Community Center for teams competing in the fall softball league. Quitman High School Reunion

Fun in the Sun! Art Exhibit

CLINTON — The art exhibit Fun in the Sun! is on display at Ozark Health Medical Center on U.S. 65 in south Clinton. The collection, which will hang through Aug. 6, features 46 original paintings by various local artists. Art is located in the hallways near the cafeteria on the upper level and in the outpatient wing on the lower level. The paintings are for sale for $15 to $350. Community Teaching Garden

CONWAY — The Faulkner County Master Gardeners will have a community teaching garden in front of Freyaldenhoven’s nursery, at the corner of Siebenmorgen Road and Bob Courtway Drive. Mount Nebo Chicken Fry

DARDANELLE — The 71st annual Mount Nebo Chicken Fry — Chicken, Pickin and Politickin — will take place Aug. 11 atop Mount Nebo in Mount Nebo State Park. Tyson’s award-winning cooks and Dardanelle Area Chamber of Commerce volunteers prepare chicken strips, smoked chicken and all the fixins. Arts and craft vendors will open at 10 a.m., chicken dinners will be served from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and political speeches and the pie action will run from noon to 2 p.m. The event will also include the Chicken Fried 10K, an art show, log sawing, wood splitting, horseshoe pitching, live music and more. Human Library

CONWAY — COHO (City of Hope Outreach) and the Faulkner County Library are partnering to bring the Human Library to the Faulkner County Library from 1-4 p.m. Aug. 25. The Human Library is a library of human beings — individuals, or “books” — each representing a group in the community that is somehow exposed to stigma, prejudice and/or discrimination. The program was developed to challenge societal prejudices and help people form a better understanding of those with whom they share their communities.
