Youngsters in Summer Youth Employment Program offered guidance at summit

Two groups of enrollees in Little Rock's Summer Youth Employment Program received valuable pointers to brighten their futures at the third annual Inclusion & Multicultural 700 Youth Empowerment Summit. Hosted by Supha Xayprasith-Mays, founder of Inclusion magazine, Job Inc. and the Multicultural Expo Center, the event took place July 12 at Chenal Country Club and featured breakfast and lunch sessions.

Attendees received valuable tips on education and career seeking; finance and money management; self-esteem and positive attitudes during the event, hosted by Ohio-based author and financial literacy advocate Jackie Cummings Koski. Among the speakers were Susan and Gov. Asa Hutchinson; Daryl Bassett, director of Arkansas Department of Workforce Services; Richard Mays of Mays Byrd & Associates; Mike Richardson, regional president of U.S. Bank; Sheila Sharp, director of Arkansas Community Correction; Circuit Judge Chalk Mitchell; Pat Fitts, director of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission; Kim Gillam, human resources director at Pepsi Beverages; Dr. Garry Glasco, nephrologist; and Dr. Anthony Fletcher, cardiologist. Prizes, largely gift certificates, were awarded, via verbal quizzes, to the best listeners in the audience.

That evening, Xayprasith-Mays and Richard Mays hosted a reception for event speakers and sponsoring partners at their west Little Rock home. Guests enjoyed libations and passed hors d'oeuvres by Arthur's Prime Steakhouse.
