Lane closings set for I-630 as part of $87.3 million widening project

Continuing work on the $87.3 million widening of a section of Interstate 630 in Little Rock will require a series of overnight lane closings beginning today and lasting through Saturday, the Arkansas Department of Transportation said.

Crews will reduce I-630 traffic to one lane in each direction on a 2.5-mile section between Baptist Health Medical Center and South University Avenue during the overnight hours to set temporary barrier walls, remove the Hughes Street overpass and smooth shoulder pavement.

The times in which travel will be limited to one lane in both directions, weather permitting, include from 6 p.m. today until 6 a.m. Monday and, beginning Monday, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily through Friday.

The same lane restriction will be in place from 8 p.m. Friday until midnight July 29.

Traffic will be controlled using signs and barrels.

All six lanes in the construction zone will remain open during what the department called daytime peak travel hours. The agency repeated its warning that noise from the work will affect neighborhoods near the interstate.
