Wreck sends 2 vehicles spinning; Arkansas woman killed

An 88-year-old woman died Sunday in a two-vehicle crash in northwest Arkansas, authorities said.

The collision happened just before 2:30 p.m. on U.S. 412 in Carroll County, according to an Arkansas State Police preliminary report.

Troopers said 51-year-old Thomas Fitz of Sparta was driving west when he crossed the highway's centerline and entered the eastbound lane.

The front of his 2003 Ford hit the front of a 2006 Kia traveling east, sending both vehicles spinning in a clockwise rotation, authorities wrote.

Fitz was injured when his vehicle entered a ditch and rolled, coming to rest in an upright position, the reports states. The Kia's driver, 76-year-old David Roubidoux of Springdale, was also hurt in the collision, according to the report.

Springdale resident Lois Roubidoux, listed as a passenger in the Kia, suffered fatal injuries.

Conditions were described as clear and dry at the time of the wreck.

At least 263 people have died in wrecks on Arkansas roads so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
