Driver dies after tractor-trailer crashes off Arkansas highway, hits two trees

A truck driver was killed after his tractor-trailer traveled off a west Arkansas highway and hit two trees Monday afternoon, police said.

The crash happened shortly before 3:20 p.m. on Arkansas 10 at Reeves Road in the Sebastian County town of Hackett, according to a preliminary report from Arkansas State Police.

Authorities say 51-year-old Kennith D. Watts of McCurtain, Okla., was driving west in a 2000 International tractor-trailer when it veered off the highway and struck two trees.

Watts suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash, the report states. No one else was reported hurt.

The weather was listed as clear and roads were said to be dry at the time.

At least 264 people have died in traffic crashes on Arkansas roads so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
