Michael Burks

A tribute to the late blues guitar hero Michael Burks will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the CALS Ron Robinson Theater in Little Rock. Admission is $10.

The tribute will feature a panel of family and friends telling stories and recollections of Burks, followed by a performance of The Michael Burks Project playing Burks' music. The project includes Burks' former bandmates Lance Womack on drums and Stuart Baer on keyboards, along with Josh Parks (who was a musician mentored by Burks) on guitar and vocals and Heather Crosse on bass.

Bobbie Burks, Michael's widow, will be part of the panel discussion, along with Deb Finney, Burks' friend and Blues House Party KABF-FM radio show host, who will serve as the panel's moderator. The event came together in conjunction with what would have been Burks' 61st birthday on July 30.

Burks, who adopted Arkansas as his home, won the 2004 Living Blues magazine's Critics' Award for best guitarist.
