3 people killed in state accidents in 2 days

At least three people died in accidents on state roads Wednesday and Thursday, according to Arkansas State Police reports.

A 22-year-old Jonesboro man was killed after the dump truck he was driving hit two 18-wheelers Thursday morning, authorities said.

The crash occurred shortly after 6 a.m. on U.S. 67 near Pocahontas and north of the county line separating Lawrence and Randolph counties, the report said.

Tyler Carter Johnson was headed north on the highway when the dump truck crossed the road's centerline and struck a southbound 2005 Peterbilt and then a southbound 2017 Freightliner.

Johnson suffered fatal injuries in the crash. The report did not specify what caused his vehicle to cross the centerline.

State police said two men were injured in the crash: 32-year-old Rick Hudson of Reyno, who was driving the Peterbilt, and 54-year-old Douglas Dean Davis of Granite City, Ill., the Freightliner's driver.

Southbound and northbound lanes of the highway were closed for more than seven hours after the crash, according to the state Transportation Department.

Also Thursday, a 76-year-old pedestrian died after being hit by a pickup on a West Memphis street, state police said.

Jesse Jordan was struck by an eastbound Chevrolet Tahoe while he was in the eastbound lane of Broadway shortly before 9 p.m, according to a preliminary crash report.

The West Memphis resident suffered fatal injuries. The driver of the pickup was not identified in the report.

One person was killed and two were injured Wednesday night in a two-vehicle collision on a state highway in northern Arkansas, authorities said.

Randall Castle, 62, of Peel was driving a 1992 Ford Tempo north on Arkansas 125 when the car crossed the centerline and hit a southbound 2016 Kia Sorento, according to a state police preliminary report.

The crash happened shortly after 9:30 p.m. Castle suffered fatal injuries.

Troopers said the Kia driver, Andrea Goehl, 58, of Harrison, and a passenger, Linda Bryant, 67, of Parthenon, were hurt in the crash.

The weather was clear and roads were dry at the time of all the crashes, state police reported.
