• The Rev. Jeff Wright, pastor at Red Bank Baptist Church in Lexington, S.C., said the church is removing a hand-carved, 7-foot statue of Jesus from the front entrance because the congregation deemed it too Catholic.
• Clifford Eugene Williams, 30, of Oklahoma, was convicted of manufacturing child pornography after hosting parties where people went to drink and take drugs, then leading the guests, some of whom were teenagers, into a bedroom to undress them and take photographs to post online.
• Jessie McKim, 52, is enjoying freedom after outgoing Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens commuted his life sentence for first-degree murder in the 1997 death of Wendy Wagnon, with Greitens saying the cause of her death identified at the time was "completely wrong."
• Star Peterson, who suffered injuries during last year's white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Va., was one of seven people arrested after protesting a jail sentence for a black man who said he used an improvised flamethrower at the Charlottesville rally to defend himself.
• Steve Lansdale, spokesman for Heritage Auctions in Dallas, said a lock of blond hair that experts believe came from Lt. Col. George Armstrong Custer, the officer who perished at the Battle of Little Bighorn in 1876, sold for $12,500, more than six times its pre-auction estimate.
• Jimmy Vongphakdy, 36, was arrested after investigators found a body buried in a shallow grave and covered with tires in the backyard of his home, telling Oklahoma City police that he had been digging in the backyard to work on sewer lines and he had no idea there was a dead body buried there.
• Leimome Cheeks, 62, was charged with child endangerment after authorities said she transported two children, ages 7 and 8, inside pet kennels in the back of her car where there were no air-conditioning vents, telling police there was no room in her vehicle.
• Ellery Beals, 35, faces assault and other charges after being captured on surveillance video firing shots at a Kansas City, Mo., gas station, wounding a 4-year-old when a bullet traveled from the shootout into a nearby house.
• Ricardo Soto, 33, was accused of child abuse and evading an officer when he fled to Mexico after his 2-year-old son was critically injured with a skull fracture, resulting in Soto's arrest in Texas as he returned to the United States.
