TEXARKANA -- The mystery surrounding the finding of the decapitated body of a woman on the Bassett farm, near here, yesterday afternoon, has not been cleared up, but authorities say there are several reasons for believing that the victim was June Cox, who has not been seen here since May 20, when she was driven to some point in a taxicab by a negro chauffeur. The negro has been arrested, but says he knows nothing about the affair. It is said that the Cox woman was a material witness for the state in a number of bootlegging cases and it is believed that she was "put out of the way" on this account.

• The decomposed body of a Little Rock taxi driver missing since June 3 was found Monday night in Grant County, just across the Jefferson County line from where his bloodstained cab was found abandoned Sunday. Dr. Lewis Clark of Sheridan, Grant County deputy coroner, said the body of Ronald Edward Lovelace, 21, was found by a Redfield man who was looking for a lost dog. He said the body was lying face down with the feet against a tree in thick undergrowth on a dim logging road. Dr. Clark said there was no attempt to bury the body and little or no effort to conceal it.

• Little Rock Air Force Base got a close-up view Thursday of the Air Force's first C-17 Globemaster III. The huge craft is the airlift airplane of the future if it passes muster with Congress, said Gen. Ronald Fogleman, commander of the Air Force's Air Mobility Command. Fogleman said he decided to bring the plane to Little Rock Air Force Base "to show it to the people who are going to operate and provide maintenance" for it.

• Two brothers pleaded guilty Tuesday to federal charges of conspiring to distribute cocaine and threatening to harm a witness or his family if he didn't claim ownership of guns and drugs found during a police search. U.S. District Judge Bill Wilson Jr. accepted back-to-back pleas from Nigel Jalon Caffey, 28, and Dan Morrell Caffey, 36, who is also known as "Rail" or "Slim." They are the last two of nine defendants in a drug conspiracy case filed last year that largely involved members of the same family.
