Arkansas woman sustains serious injuries in head-on crash in Missouri, authorities say

Two people, including an Arkansas woman, were taken by helicopter to hospitals after a head-on collision Monday in southeast Missouri, according to a preliminary crash report.

The Missouri Highway Patrol said Kandra Leonard, 22, was driving north on Missouri 53 near Qulin around 1:40 p.m. when the Corning resident crossed the highway's centerline in her 2007 Dodge Charger and hit a southbound 2015 Chevrolet Suburban. The report did not state what caused Leonard to cross into the southbound lanes.

Leonard and a passenger in the SUV, 58-year-old Vanessa Hartwell, sustained serious injuries and were taken by helicopter to area hospitals for treatment, troopers said. Leonard was flown to The Med in Memphis, and Hartwell was taken to Southeast Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

The Chevrolet's driver, 33-year-old Jodi Lilly, was taken to Black River Medical Center in Poplar Bluff to be treated for minor injuries, according to the report.
