After a woman tried to flee her gun-wielding boyfriend, he threatened to throw her into Interstate 40 traffic Monday in North Little Rock and grabbed cash from her bra, police said.

Joe Mitchell, 34, of North Little Rock faces charges of first-degree terroristic threatening, first-degree false imprisonment, aggravated robbery and third-degree assault, records show.

The 34-year-old victim said Mitchell, traveling as a front-seat passenger in a blue GMC Yukon, pulled a black handgun from his waistband and told her he would shoot her if she stopped driving while on I-40 near the Springhill Drive exit.

When the vehicle ran out of gas, the girlfriend got out of the vehicle and ran, at which point Mitchell chased after her, according to a report from the Arkansas State Police.

Mitchell then grabbed her by the collar of her shirt and told her he would throw her in front of traffic on Interstate 40 if she didn’t give him her money that was in her bra, the report said.

Police said Mitchell “took the cash with force” from the victim’s bra before running south into nearby woods.

A drone and personnel at the Union Pacific's North Little Rock Rail Yard later spotted Mitchell, the report states. Records show Mitchell was arrested shortly after 3:40 p.m. About $1,250 in cash was seized, according to the report.

He remained at the Pulaski County jail as of Tuesday morning, and bail had not been set, according to an online inmate roster. He has a July 17 court appearance.
