Arkansas teen arrested on murder charge in death of infant daughter, police say

An Arkansas man faces a murder charge in the death of his infant daughter earlier this week, police said.

Tyler Buchanan, 19, was arrested Tuesday on one count of first-degree murder, according to detective Jonathan Wear of the Van Buren Police Department.

Officers were called around 9 a.m. that day to a home in the 1100 block of Baldwin Street in reference to a 2-month-old girl who wasn't breathing, according to authorities.

“Through the course of the investigation, we were able to determine that she was killed by Buchanan early in the morning,” Wear said, adding that the 19-year-old waited hours to call for help.

The spokesman said the 2-month-old had been dead for “several hours” before police responded.

The girl was transported to Sparks Medical Center in Van Buren, where she was pronounced dead, Wear said.

An investigation is ongoing, Wear said. Additional information regarding the girl’s death wasn’t released as of Wednesday afternoon.

Buchanan remained at the Crawford County jail as of Wednesday afternoon, according to the jail.
