The Arkansas Cornbread Festival has announced the date for this year's event.

In its seventh year, the festival will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 27 on Little Rock's South Main Street.

During the event, vendors will provide cornbread samples to guests, who cast votes to determine who makes the best cornbread and complementing side item. Cooking teams of individuals and restaurant chefs will also compete for cash prizes and judges' ribbons.

"Bonding over cornbread is a Southern tradition, and once you’ve had a taste of SoMa, you’ll have to come back for more," organizers said in a Facebook post.

Neighborhood businesses as well as food trucks and area breweries will be open with specials for attendees, which topped 3,500 last year, according the festival's website. The event will also feature live musical acts, arts-and-crafts vendors and a kids corner.

Tickets go on sale Aug. 20 and cost $8 if purchased in advance. Tickets purchased at the gate will cost $10. Proceeds support community-improvement projects in the South Main area, organizers said.
