Hearing set for central Arkansas doctor acquitted of 8 sexual assault counts

CONWAY — A judge has set an Aug. 7 pretrial hearing for a Conway physician whose trial ended in acquittal for eight sexual-assault counts and mistrial on eight other counts.

Special Prosecutor Jason Barrett did not immediately return a phone message Thursday asking whether he planned to pursue the remaining counts against Dr. Robert Rook, 63. Defense attorney Patrick Benca said he did not know if Barrett would pursue them.

In May, a Faulkner County Circuit Court jury advised Judge Charles Clawson Jr. that it could not reach a verdict on eight of the counts.

Rook was arrested and charged in 2016 as a result of allegations by some of his former patients.
