An Arkansas man was arrested Friday in the 2017 slaying of a 32-year-old man, and court records show it's the second time he's been charged with murder in the death.

In a news release, the Hot Springs Police Department said Demetrius Perry, 21, was taken into custody on a charge of first-degree murder in the killing of Charles David Hill.

According to court documents, Hot Springs officers responded to the intersection of Third and Garens streets about 10:30 p.m. April 5, 2017, and found Hill with a gunshot wound to the abdomen and screaming for help. He reportedly died later at a nearby hospital.

Perry eventually told investigators that he and Hill had gotten into an argument over drugs earlier that night, and a gun went off while they were fighting in a vehicle, an affidavit states.

Police arrested Perry on a charge of second-degree murder April 11, 2017, court records show. The case against him was reportedly dropped in June of that year "per further investigation."

A request for further comment from the Hot Springs Police Department was not answered Friday evening. In the news release, authorities said no further information will be released, citing a gag order in the case.

Perry, a Hot Springs resident, remained at the Garland County jail Friday night in lieu of $100,000 bond, records show.
