Where I live: Hillcrest

Occupation: Communications and marketing manager, Clinton Foundation

My favorite space is: Our den

Why? The room used to function only as a back porch, but during a renovation a few years ago we turned it into a warm, inviting and usable space. Yes, the television is back there, but it's rarely used unless we're watching Planet Earth or some other wander-inducing show. I often find myself enjoying the walls of windows that allow the sun to flood in, keeping the menagerie of plants we have placed on the deep window sills verdant and thriving -- except for that one in the corner that seems to have the mange. The couch is the perfect location for an afternoon nap under the blanket made of wax fabrics purchased on a recent trip to South Africa.

It's not a large room, so it serves as a cozy, intimate place to sit and talk, where I catch up on the news, hunt for cheap plane tickets to my next destination, and -- too often -- eat dessert.

If I could make one change to improve this space, I would: Replace the windows with more energy-efficient, double pane windows that open. I would also like to make the room just a bit larger and add on a mud room where we can stash the shoes for yard work.
