Town's police force pulled off the job

The Dierks Police Department has been suspended with pay for not completing some training and standards, an official said.

The department failed to meet the firing-range standards and has not completed the racial-profiling class, Mayor Terry Mounts said.

The Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards will work with Dierks to meet the standards, he said.

Mounts said the profiling class is a two-hour course.

While the Police Department works to meet the standards, the Howard County sheriff's office will provide patrols and answer law enforcement calls for Dierks, a town of approximately 1,230 in Howard County in southwest Arkansas.

The City Council has called a meeting for 6 p.m. Monday to discuss the Police Department. It will be in the Dierks Municipal Building at 200 W. Third St.
