Tulsa defeats NW Arkansas

TULSA, Okla. — Jacob Scavuzzo and DJ Peters connected on back-to-back homers in the sixth inning, leading the Tulsa Drillers to a 4-3 win over the Northwest Arkansas Naturals on Saturday.

Brian Moran got Donnie Dewees to fly out with runners on first and second to end the game for his third save of the season.

Scavuzzo hit a three-run shot before Peters hit a solo shot that gave the Drillers a 4-2 lead.

Following the big inning, the Naturals cut into the deficit in the ninth inning when Jecksson Flores hit a solo home run.

Tulsa right-hander Logan Bawcom (2-4) picked up a quality start and the win after allowing two runs on five hits over six innings. Opposing starter Foster Griffin (3-7) took the loss in the Texas League game after giving up four runs and seven hits over 51/3 innings.

ARKANSAS 6, SPRINGFIELD 4

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Donnie Walton had three hits and two RBI as the Arkansas Travelers beat the Springfield Cardinals 6-4 on Saturday. Matt Walker allowed a run, but got Victor Roache to fly out with a runner on second to end the game for his second save of the season. Arkansas grabbed a 4-2 lead in the second after Chuck Taylor hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Walton. Following the big inning, the Cardinals cut into the deficit in the third inning when Edmundo Sosa hit an RBI single, scoring Tommy Edman. The Travelers later tacked on two runs in the fourth when Taylor hit an RBI single and Eric Filia hit a sacrifice fly to secure the victory. Springfield saw its comeback attempt come up short after Granden Goetzman hit an RBI double, scoring Chris Chinea in the ninth inning to cut the Arkansas lead to 6-4. Arkansas right-hander Max Povse (3-2) picked up a quality start and the win after allowing three runs on eight hits over seven innings. Opposing starter Mike O’Reilly (2-2) took the loss in the Texas League game after allowing four runs and two hits over 12/3 innings.

Sosa singled three times for the Cardinals.
