Hogging the limelight

Wow! DearJohn(Brummett)isselfishly hogging all the letters space on the opinion page. So sad.

I’m afeared Mr. Brummett is grating on some people’s nerves, thusly causing a public mental health breakdown within the state. Symptoms of this mental decline include the pot calling the kettle black, use of misappropriated metaphors, and failure to decipher humorous understatement. Of course it may just be me, but when I hear the terms “bully” or “clown,” when I hear the descriptions “disgusting” or “insulting,” or when someone tells another to “leave the country if they don’t like it,” my mind automatically trips to Trump. Not dear John.

Everyone should hear or read others’ opinions whether agreeable or not. I suffer Gitz, Williams and Co. for the delight I get when I actually concur with their thought processes. Maybe John Brummett should write an opinion about the weather (“it’s really, really hot”) or the Hogs (“they’re really, really hot”) every other week so these poor readers don’t lose their minds, that is, if they hadn’t already lost ’em before they voted for that clown. Excuse me … person.

Ego-driven sociopath

Well, well, it seems several Trump supporters have recently gotten their whitie tighties in a wad, and expressed their hurt feelings over columns and words they find offensive. I have read and pondered these puny little rebuttals, and remain amazed how average Arkansans can feel allegiance to this preposterous,ego-drivensociopaththat shocks and baffles us on a daily basis.

One explanation for this blind loyalty comes from the man himself: “I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody and not lose voters.” What?!?

Sadly, this type of bizarre statement along with belligerent and boorish behavior are the bedrock of this administration. But here’s the kicker: Many of Trump’s minions not only tolerate and defendhismisconduct, theyrevelinthe sick, uncouth perversity of it.

For the defenders of this defiant tyrant, the key question is this: Does Donald Trump, the person, with his in-your-face pride and arrogance, really align with your own homegrown spiritual and philosophical core beliefs and values and ethics that define and identify you as part of humanity? Try giving it some thought.

Can someone fan me?

I could complain about Trump and his constant litany of lies and deflections, but I’m tired and just want Robert Mueller to finish his investigation so we can all move on.

Now if someone could just do something about this heat. It’s bad enough dealing with this when the temperature’s in the 60s.

Human-rights horror

I am tired of hearing people interviewed on TV blaming America for the current treatment of children of families seeking asylum in this country.

This is not America’s law. It is the “zero tolerance” policy of Donald Trump, Jeff Sessions, and their henchmen who are promulgating this atrocity. The Republican congressional delegation (including the four representatives and two senators from our state) are doing nothing. Stop this now!

Trump blames Democrats (as usual) for passing a law permitting this. This is another big Trump lie. It is not a law. It is the warped way Trump, Sessions, and their minions have decreed this sick human-rights violation be carried out. They are even using the Bible to justify what they are doing. This is blasphemy. I think they should be the ones “locked up.”

Look in the mirror, Trump. This atrocity can be placed squarely on your shoulders, the shoulders of other thugs in your administration, and your congressional lackeys.

I believe this is just another in a series of many things which highlight the utter lack of morals and leadership Trump, his administration, and Congress have exhibited and is quickly leading us down the road to an autocratic nightmare, with those in position to do something about this not doing so.

Wake up, Americans and voters. Something needs to be done before our country, our freedom, and our values are degraded to the point of no return. The Russian bear is knocking loudly on our door.

Shouldn’t stand for it

In reading about people attempting to immigrate into our great country, I am outraged at the current policy of separating young children from their families in some 2,000 cases to date. This is wrong, whether or not the families are attempting to enter legally.

Separating young children from their mothers and fathers can lead to major long-term emotional damage to these families. The children are not at fault. Surely our government leaders can come up with a reasonable, humane way to deal with attempted illegal immigration that does not cause permanent scars to children.

I humbly ask that our congressional delegation from Arkansas step up to lead to help alleviate this situation immediately. Time is of the essence here—every single day, for every single child, is important.

Finally, I am embarrassed as a Christian that Attorney General Jeff Sessions has called on the Bible, specifically Romans, Chapter 13, to justify this wrongheaded government action. This is an abuse of scripture and the intent of that passage. Jesus would never approve of taking children from their parents because our government is ineffective. He would not stand for it, and neither should any of us.
