Police say a 7-year-old boy was hospitalized after being hit by a vehicle Monday evening in Fort Smith.

Shortly before 6 p.m., Fort Smith Police Department said, officers responded to a crash involving a boy on a bicycle who had been hit at the intersection 35th Street and Holyoke Avenue.

The child’s mother arrived a short time later and accompanied the 7-year-old to Mercy Hospital Fort Smith for treatment, according to a statement. He was later flown to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock.

The boy’s condition was not immediately clear as of Tuesday evening, and additional information regarding the wreck hadn’t been released.
