LR science talk, radio call-in to focus on drone use

A panel discussion about drones and their use in areas such as crop monitoring, disaster operations, photography, search and rescue, and express shipping is scheduled for Tuesday.

The panel discussion will feature three speakers:

• Chad Johnston, protective security adviser, Department of Homeland Security, Little Rock.

• Charles Wilson, FAA certified manned aircraft pilot, Aerial Digital Photography, Little Rock.

• Richard Ham, associate director of engineering/operations, College of Engineering, University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. He has a doctorate in education.

The Science Cafe event, co-sponsored by the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, is scheduled from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. at Hibernia Irish Tavern, 9700 N. Rodney Parham Road in Little Rock. Dorothy Graves, associate director for administration of the UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, will moderate the event.

Science Cafe includes a corresponding live radio call-in program, "Science Cafe Little Rock," on National Public Radio-affiliate station KUAR-FM 89.1 in Little Rock. The science talk show, which features one speaker from the monthly panel of scientists and experts, is broadcast from 6:05 p.m.-6:30 p.m. before the live Science Cafe event. Wilson, the FAA certified manned aircraft pilot, is this month's radio guest.

Science Cafe is held the fourth Tuesday of the month, except for July, August and December.
