A proposal to relocate downtown Little Rock’s McDonald’s restaurant a block north to the opposite side of Broadway is set to go before the city’s Board of Adjustment, filings show.

The plan, up for consideration Monday, would mean the fast-food chain’s long-running location at 701 Broadway would be shuttered.

A new brick-and-mortar outlet constructed at 515 W. 6th St., the current location of a parking lot, would then take its place, according to an application for relocation. It would be just north of the Goodyear Auto Service Center.

Dallas-based Adams Engineering, speaking as a property representative, is seeking six variances for the restaurant, including the allowance of a drive-thru that would be visible from the road.

The menu board would face South Arch Street, and drive-thru windows would be along the building’s south side.

According to the site plan, the 5,100-square-foot McDonald’s would be set back from Broadway to allow for “better flow around the site to keep traffic moving.”

Other variance requests include the planting of trees, a ground-mounted sign and parking along the property’s four sides — three of which front roads.

When McDonald's opened at its current Broadway location in December 1986, it was the largest location of the chain in the state, the Arkansas Democrat reported.
