Suspect to stay jailed in Little Rock gunfire; prosecutor cites man’s history of violence against girlfriend

A 25-year-old Little Rock man accused of shooting at his former girlfriend in front of their children next to Central High School will be jailed until trial at court order.

Pulaski County Circuit Judge Barry Sims denied Treveon Adair Gillerson's request for bail on Monday after deputy prosecutor Katie Hinojosa argued against his release. Hinojosa cited Gillerson's history of violence against the woman and how close the April 27 gunfire was to the high school.

At least one school security officer witnessed the drive-by shooting at the home of 24-year-old Kendra Iesha Green, 2419 W. 13th St., north of the school. A school resource officer heard the shots and called police, Little Rock detective Brandon Eggerth told the judge.

No one was injured. Eggerth said Green and Gillerson had argued over their visitation arrangement during a custody exchange when Gillerson started shooting from the car in which he was a passenger.

The couple's two children, a 4-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl, were seated in the car behind Gillerson when he started shooting, the detective testified.

The driver, who is Gillerson's cousin, and Green's sister both told police that they saw Gillerson firing the gun. Gillerson surrendered to police a few hours later.

He first denied any wrongdoing, but when confronted by police about the statements by witnesses that contradicted him, Gillerson said he had shot the weapon, the detective testified.

Gillerson said he had fired in self-defense because Green's brother had fired at him, Eggerth told the judge. The four .40-caliber shell casings police found at the scene show only one gun was fired, the detective said.

Gillerson is to stand trial in November on charges of kidnapping, unlawful discharge of a firearm from a vehicle, aggravated assault on a family member, and felon in possession of a firearm.

His attorney, Amy Jackson, asked for $50,000 bail, saying Gillerson is needed at home because he has been the sole caretaker for his gravely ill mother.

Court records show that Gillerson has twice before beaten Green, attacks that have kept him on probation since February 2015.

In February 2014, Gillerson hit the then-pregnant woman in the head with a liquor bottle during an argument. He pleaded guilty to misdemeanor domestic battering, reduced from a felony, in exchange for a year on probation.

But he beat her again in August 2015 during an argument after she took the couple's son to him for visitation.

That attack led to Gillerson pleading guilty in November 2016 to felony domestic battering, with his probation extended for five years, conditioned in part on his having no contact with Green.

Six months later in May 2017, Gillerson was arrested with a gun by Little Rock police, court records show. He was free on bail waiting for that case to come to trial when he was arrested in the shooting.
