Nightgowned thief points screwdriver

A woman wearing a nightgown stole several items from a North Little Rock discount store Monday evening and then threatened a worker who confronted her, police said.

Shortly before 6:40 p.m., police were called to the Family Dollar store at 715 E. Broadway, according to a report from the North Little Rock Police Department.

A store employee said she confronted and tried to stop the thief from leaving the building, but the female thief pulled out a screwdriver and told the employee to "get back."

Authorities noted that the thief left with a large multicolored gift bag and a large black purse. Both appeared to have been "packed full of merchandise," police said.

Workers followed the thief to the east side of the business, where she got into the passenger's side of a bright yellow, 1990s model Chevrolet S-10, police said.

The thief was described as a heavyset black woman in her 50s who stands about 5 feet 2 inches tall. She was wearing a white nightgown with pink flowers, a white headscarf and black house shoes.

Jacksonville man held in teen rape

A Jacksonville man was arrested Wednesday, accused of having sex with a 13-year-old, North Little Rock police said.

Henson was still in the Pulaski County jail as of Wednesday evening, records show.

Suspect charged in Sherwood fire

A Sherwood man was charged on June 14 with felony arson after Sherwood police say he set two fires in his home on Feb. 2.

Arrested was Russell Fields, 42, of 1200 Wildwood Ave.

Sherwood Police Department Sgt. John Murphy said flames in the wood-frame house on Wildwood Avenue originated in two different rooms.

Russell was the only person in the house at the time and called 911 to report the blaze about 7 p.m., Murphy said.

Murphy said officers considered the fire "suspicious" after discovering that both blazes -- one in a bedroom and one in the garage of the one-story house -- began in the center of the rooms and had no apparent ignition source.
