Street shootout in Pine Bluff leaves 2 men dead

Two men died Thursday in what witnesses called a shootout in Pine Bluff, officials said.

Pine Bluff Police Department Lt. David DeFoor said officers responded to a shots-fired call around 27th and Orange streets about 3:30 p.m. Thursday, and while officers were looking for the source of the gunfire, two men arrived at Jefferson Regional Medical Center with gunshot wounds.

One man, DeFoor said, had a non-life-threatening gunshot wound in his leg. The other man died in surgery, DeFoor said.

Officers arrested two people who were in the vehicle at the medical center, neither of whom were injured, and returned to the area where the shots were fired, DeFoor said.

In the area of 24th and Fir streets, DeFoor said officers found a car crashed in a ditch. In the car, they found a man who had died from at least one gunshot wound.

DeFoor said witnesses told police officers that people in the two cars were shooting at one another as they drove along the street.
