40-year-old son threatened them, Arkansas parents say

HOT SPRINGS -- The parents of a Hot Springs parolee arrested on a felony battery charge told authorities their son threatened to kill them and "make one of us eat the other," according to petitions for orders of protection filed in court.

Steven Brian Cole, 40, was arrested June 17 after his 72-year-old mother told investigators Cole attacked her, held her down, grabbed her by the hair and shook her "back and forth," according to a probable-cause affidavit from the Garland County sheriff's office.

The woman said that Cole also threw a can of soda at her, injuring her, and told her and her husband that if they called anyone or tried to leave he would kill them, the affidavit said. She said the abuse had been going on for awhile and they were both afraid of him.

Orders of protection were issued through Garland County Circuit Court on Monday barring Cole from contact with either parent.

In their petitions for the orders, the two wrote that Cole had threatened to kill them and "make one of us eat the other." He also threatened to kill his mother and "eat her face off," she wrote in her petition.
