Central Arkansas Library System plans 4 programs about 'fake news'

The Central Arkansas Library System has planned four programs about “fake news” in Arkansas history. The first is Saturday.

A one-hour workshop teaching news literacy resources, particularly those that can be used by teachers in the classroom, is planned for 10 a.m. in the computer room of the Main Library at 100 Rock St. in Little Rock.

The library system’s digital literacy specialist will demonstrate various online resources that can be used to teach news literacy. Registration is required at cals.org.

Politicians will join the conversation March 15 at a 6 p.m. debate on the topic of fake news between Sen. David Sanders, political analyst Jessica Sabin and media strategist and former gubernatorial spokesman Matt DeCample.

In April, there will be two programs. One is a reading of Lies My Teacher Told Me by James W. Loewen mand a discussion hosted by the Word Virus Book Club on April 5.

The last event, The Nantucket Sea Monster: A Fake News Story, is April 28. Author Darcy Pattison will discuss “this non-political, true fake news story that explores issues of free press and fake news in a child-friendly manner,” a news release said.
